They said there was a higher than normal French contingent at the games due to the village’s recent twinning with Martignas-sur-Jalle.

Bella was crowned the under-8 supreme winner at the New Zealand Highland Dancing Championships for the second year in a row at the weekend.

With his wife Cathie, he travelled the length and breadth of Scotland, accompanying his daughter, Mary, giving her the support and encouragement to take part in Highland Dancing competitions and championships, particularly proud our her achievements in winning the World Championship at Cowal.

It seemed natural that his interest in dance combined with administrative experience would take him into the world of organizing competitions, initially at Bathgate Highland Games, various smaller events within the area, and running a successful series of competitions in East Whitburn .

Alec was a character, extremely popular and well-liked by everyone who knew him, and was never slow to put across his views.

Ten-year-old Rhys Dixon travelled from Fredericton to partake in the highland dancing competition.

She found the weather humid, especially wearing traditional highland dance garb.

'Today's good, it's hot, but really good.'

Dixon has been dancing for seven years and has participated in other highland games.

This is her first year in Moncton.

'I want to come back next year, but I hope it's not this hot!'"
